Omikuji (おみくじ) are fortunes written on strips of paper that are attached to sticks and are drawn out of a box at Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples around Japan. Unrolling the piece of paper reveals the fortune written on it, which range from excellent luck (dai-kichi, 大吉) to terrible luck (dai-kyo, 大凶).

Omikuji is often used to predict if a marriage is going to be a success as in the example here. When the prediction is good you should keep it, but when the prediction is bad, it is custom to fold up the strip of paper and attach it to a pine tree in the temple grounds. This is thought to be done because the word for pine tree (matsu, 松) is the same as the verb to wait (matsu, 待つ). So in theory the bad luck will stay at the pine tree and not attach itself to the person.

As already mentioned dai-kyo (大凶) is the worst result you can get from omikuji
(おみくじ). However George's has 凶大大大 written on it due to Daria's tampering. The character for large (dai, 大) is repeated three times (although in this case it means terrible). So the line George actually says is:
"Terrible luck?! On top of that the terrible character is written 3 times"
To make the translation fit into this line's short time span it had to be modified.

This line should actually translate as:
"While the chimpanzee is being unfaithful, I'll be making her go (scream) Ah." However this was altered to it's implied meaning of trying to frighten her away.

Japanese pizzas often have very different toppings than ours do here in the west. A mixed pizza typically has the following toppings:

Pepperoni, Chopped Beef, Bacon, Mushroom, Eggplant, Tomato,
Green Pepper, Garlic, Shimeji Mushroom and Onion.

In the previous line George's mum mentions that she works at a cafeteria by Ise harbour. The local speciality of Ise is lobster which known as Ise-ebi
(伊勢エビ) or Ise-lobster in English. In this line she is boasting about how good her Ise-ebi is, however due to timing constraints and for better flow of the conversation, the mention of Ise-ebi was omitted.

Matchmaker is the closest translation available but nakoudo (仲人) is a position at Japanese wedding ceremonies which is usually held by the groom's boss or elderly couples that are known by both families. They act as go-betweens who negotiate issues between both the families that are being united and are often selected for ceremonial purposes. The more important the nakoudo is, the more respected the groom is, which is why Suzuki is asking for this role so politely. It is the groom's duty to ask his boss, not the other way round. In this episode, Suzuki really wants George to have a reception so that his wife can wear her brand new kimono.

Taishoukan is where male actors specially dress and apply makeup in such a fashion to make themselves appear female. This is so they can perform traditionally female roles in various entertainment acts such as dancing. This is one of the rare instances where we have left a Japanese word in the script due to there not being an equivalent in English. However the following line where the cart puller explains a little about taishoukan was altered to give better clarity so that no cultural knowledge is required by the viewer.

Tendon is a rice bowl dish (donburi). It consists of shrimp and vegetables that have been deep fried in batter (tempura) and served on top of the rice. This conversation tree had to be altered to avoid unnecessary repeated and odd usage of rice bowl.

Dango (団子) is a Japanese dumpling made from rice flour (mochiko). Three or four are usually served together on a skewer. A very common Japanese proverb "Hana yori dango" (花より団子) which translates as "dumplings rather than flowers" refers to a preference for practical things rather than aesthetics.

In Japan when things are thrown away, everything is divided into burnable, non-burnable, recyclable and other waste. PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) plastics are coded with the number 1 inside the universal recycling symbol and in many countries PET bottles are collected for recycling. Post-consumer PET is sorted into different colours and then shredded into PET flakes which can be used as a substitute for products that would usually be made out of polyester.

Here Daria says two lines that are not in sync with the audio. This is not an error in our encoding, but is exactly the same as what happens on the official DVD. It seems these two lines were re-recorded afterwards and if you watch her lips very carefully you can see that the actress has actually messed up her lines.

"So there you are!" isn't exactly what George's mum says here but it fits much nicer than the (non-rude) translation “You idiot!” which is actually being said.
